ABIDE Prayer: Wisdom

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

In this ABIDE, we will look to the Lord as the true source of all wisdom.

Prayers of Praise

“If you seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (Proverbs 2:4-6)

Let’s begin by praising God for His generous provision in our lives.

Prayer: Thank you for your provision when ________________(ask the Lord to bring to mind specific moments in your life when you have experienced His wise provision.)

Prayers of Petition for My Heart

“Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it will be given to himBut let him ask in faith without doubting…”  (James 1:5-6a)

Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any situation in your life where you need His wisdom.

Prayer: God, I need your wisdom in __________________ (fill in the blank with whatever situation/circumstance/relationship where you need God’s wisdom).

Prayers of Petition for Others

“I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.” (Psalm 32:8)

Let’s pray for God to give the following groups of people His wisdom:

  • Parents
  • Church leaders and churches across our city
  • Teachers and School Administration
  • Leaders in businesses
  • Leaders in our Community, State and Nation

Prayer:  God, please give _______________ (fill in the blank with the group of people you are praying for) your wisdom and a heart to seek you and the wisdom you generously provide.

Closing Prayer:  God, thank you for offering me skillful and godly wisdom. I’m so grateful for your promise to instruct and teach me in the way I should go. Cause me to be willing to learn and also receptive to your counsel. I choose not to be wise in my own eyes, but instead trust in and rely confidently on You Lord with all my heart.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
