ABIDE Prayer: The Lord Is Our Shepherd

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

Scripture tells us, “Acknowledge that the LORD is God. He made us, and we are his – his people, the sheep of his pasture” (Psalm 100:3).

As our Shepherd, the LORD tends to our wounds, guides us, and protects us. We are under His authority. Our Shepherd is gentle with our hearts, yet He is God Almighty who rules over all of creation.

Pray Psalm 23

Slowly read Psalm 23 aloud as a prayer to God declaring that He is our Good Shepherd.

The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need.
He lets me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters.
He renews my life; he leads me along the right paths for his name’s sake
Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger for you are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD as long as I live.
