Prayers of Invitation

Luke 2:1-20 tells the story of the birth of Jesus.  Luke 2:7 says, “Then she gave birth to her firstborn Son, and she wrapped him tightly in cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.”

Jesus came to earth and was born in a manger.  A humble manger that was dirty and had no beauty and glory until He entered.  Like the manger, our hearts are transformed when Jesus enters and brings His glory.  Yet, our hearts can become full of a variety of things so that we don’t have “room” for Jesus.

Let’s make room for Jesus in our hearts through prayer and invite Him into the room of our hearts.

Jesus, we invite you into ______________________ (fill in the blank with an area of your heart where you need Jesus, such as fears, relationship with your children, finances, struggles, business) and ask you to fill the room of our heart with your__________________(fill in the blank with an attribute of Jesus – you can refer to the list of names/titles of Jesus) and fill our hearts with you.

In Luke 2:8-20 we read that the shepherds were visited by angels and were told that Jesus our Savior was born.  In verses 16-17 we read, “They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger.  After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”

The shepherds were excited to see Jesus and after seeing Jesus, they shared the message of Jesus with others.  Let’s ask Jesus to make us excited like the shepherds to seek Him and share His message with others this Christmas.

Individual Prayer

Pray this prayer silently. Jesus, give me a passion for you and a new excitement about seeking you with my whole heart.

Closing Prayer

Jesus, thank you for coming to save us and give your life for us. We don’t want to miss you this Christmas.  We need and want our heart’s attention to be on you.  We love you. We worship you.  We give our hearts and lives to you.  Thank you that you invite us into a relationship with you and that you come when we invite you into our hearts and lives.  We welcome you, King Jesus. Amen.
