ABIDE Prayer: God Is Working in Us

The purpose of ABIDE is to seek God through prayer, rely on the Spirit as we gather together, and pray with unity and purpose. ABIDE prayers are Scripture-led and Spirit-focused prayers.

God is working in His children’s lives.

He loves us and cares about every trial, painful experience and struggle that we experience.  God works in our lives to heal us, free us, restore us. He even uses our pain and brokenness to reveal His glory and spread the Gospel.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort.  He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Prayers of Praise

God, I bless your name!  I praise you for being my __________________ when I experience affliction of any kind (fill in the blank with a name of God or a description of God that we find in Scripture – Comforter, Healer, Father of mercies, God of all comfort, Redeemer, Stronghold).

Prayers of Thanksgiving

God is working in our lives and promises that He will continue to work in our lives.

“I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

Thank God for a past work.

God, thank you for __________________ (fill in the blank with something God did in your life or in your family – a work He did in your past).

Thank God for a present work.

God, thank you that you are currently working in my life to __________________ (fill in the blank with a way God is working in your life or in your family).

Prayer for Redemption

God faithfully uses our trials and painful experiences to impact other people’s lives with the hope and power of the Gospel.

“Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually advanced the gospel” (Philippians 1:12).

God, thank you for redeeming the trials and pain in our lives.  God, would you redeem __________________ (fill in the blank with a trial or painful experience that you want God to redeem for His glory)?

Prayer of Intercession

God, I lift up to you __________________ (fill in the blank with someone who is hurting, struggling or going through a difficult season in life) and ask that you comfort them and give them hope.  Deliver this person from hopelessness, fear and discouragement. Remind them they are loved, chosen and significant to you.

Closing Prayer

God, thank you for the gift of prayer. Help me hear you and receive all that you have for me today.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
